Things I've Learned In 2 Years Rideshare Driving
1. There are 2 things that you never talk about with the PAX. Religion, and Politics. The reason is, that everyone has very strong opinions on those 2 topics, and if their opinions agree with mine, then fine, but if not, it makes for an uncomfortable ride, and low ratings. Nobody wants that. Otherwise, I can talk your ear off. Or not.
2. Driving Rideshare isn't like regular driving. You make dozens and dozens of U-Turns, Right Turns, Left Turns, Lane Change, Pulling Over, Pulling Out, Ramp Entrances, and Exits, etc etc etc. The point is, I'm working the wheel constantly. After 6-8 Hours, for 3 days in a row, my arms were actually tired, and my hands hurt. I could probably use some driving gloves, or a steering wheel wrap.
3. Driving on a rainy day is profitable, but it makes your seats really dirty. Especially if they're light grey, like my Prius's are. I might have to invest in some after market seat covers.
4. What to do between rides? There are 2 schools of thought among drivers, Sit tight, or drive around. You could sit in an available parking lot, and just wait for pings, or drive around searching for rides. Sitting saves gas, driving around might put you nearer potential PAX. Sitting bores the hell out of me, I prefer driving.
5. I kind of prefer if the PAX sits in the back seat. Not only does that allow them to see those cute Peanuts/Minions "Have A Happy Day" cards I display in those front seat headrest covers, but it puts them at a better angle..... for the dash cam. Otherwise, I don't care where they sit, they're paying.
6. No matter how hard you try, you can't please everyone. For example, Uber averages the last 500 ratings 1-5 Stars. FYI, Uber only wants to see 5 stars. Anyway, despite having an average driver rating of 4.95, with 482/5 stars, and 15/4 stars, there still managed to be 2 people who rated me 3 stars, and 1 A-Hole who gave me a 1 star. Which of the above do you think is the true representation? Bottom line, in this business you've got to let things roll off your back.
Anyway, that's all that comes to mind right now. I'll update it, as (if) my wisdom increases. Thanks.
T.
